Client: Chittagong Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (CWASA) / World Bank

Duration: 2014 – 2017

The City of Chittagong is the second largest city and busiest international seaport of Bangladesh, with a total area of 550 km2. In 2013, the population in the municipal area was estimated to be 4.2 million with an average density of 153 inhabitants/ha. The haphazard and unplanned development resulted in a poor urban drainage system and increased risk of urban flooding.

The project objective was to develop a comprehensive sanitation and drainage improvement strategy and master plan for Chittagong city.

The consulting services involved a comprehensive review and assessment of the existing situation and drainage system, updating the existing sewerage and drainage master plans to meet demand in the year 2030, identifying and preparing detailed engineering designs, and tender documents for priority sewerage and drainage interventions in the city.

Manir Ryne led the preparation of project proposal and procurement of the project for Sweco including preparation of methodology and recruitment of the experts.
